Examples Of Our Work

Below are some of the numerous project s we have carried out in the last few years. I have tried to give examples of a wide range of projects from purely “hard and soft landscaping” to complete garden projects all of which we have designed.  We also have another portfolio of work on this website which is under the tab “School Garden Portfolio”.  Here you will see a wide range of interesting work form living roof Pergolas to wooden walkways and bridges; many of these inspirational ideas can be transferred into a domestic back or front garden. Our hard landscaping work is covered by an insurance backed warranty. Miller’s Garden Services is a member of the “Association of Professional Landscapers” Government endorsed “Trust Mark Scheme” and “Horticultural Trades Association”.

Small Walled Court Yard

A walled court yard. Here we used Sandstone cobbles for the main area of hard landscaping. Eye catching Olive trees under-planted with grasses give a soft feel to the space. The "water pool" is the main focal point of the court-yard; this was choosen by our client and we decided to add the Sandstone sphere to help tie this feature in with the cobbles. The bricks of the wall match those of a close by out building.

Improving an entrance

Here we used simple formal plants in planters to improve an entrance.

Beautiful Late Summer Herbaceous Planting

A late summer Herbaceous bed in all its glory.

A Long Gravel Driveway
A very large and long gravel driveway lined with semi mature Horse Chestnut trees.
Planting cut into a lawn

This formal scheme was simply cut into the lawn using geometric shapes to creates avenues and vistas. Once mature it will make an interesting front garden. The original lawn was left in place but the borders around the edge of the garden were somewhat overgrown; much pruning was needed to make the garden look well groomed as one would expect of a formal space.

Oak Sleeper Wall

Oak railway sleepers make great, cost effective and fantasic looking walls which blend really well with the natural environment.

Path and planting

These cobbles are pratical and aesthetically pleasing. On each side of the path we have planted shade loving plants; including rather unusual Black Figs and a new type of Hosta. Colour in this dark corner will come from various herbaceous plants including Crocosmia.

Large Patio

A large Sandstone patio which was cut to fit an existing wall and of course the house. We paid particular attention to the levels here to ensure that there was not a step from the patio to the garden.

Wall and bespoke fencing

At the far end of the patio we built a small wall which will be painted the same colour as the house. The bespoke fencing is very traditional and fits in very well with this historic cottage

Planting around the water feature

The planting around this water feature is a mix of various Ferns and blue Herbaceous plants.

Water feature
This is a large Sandstone Sphere which ways more than a 1/4 of a ton! It looks great and creates a great focal point.
Urban Oasis

Here my brief was to design and build a low maintenance, contemporary garden which used the available space better.

The walkway creates a sense of journey, focus and interest and the large decking areas make great entertaining spaces.

Dramatic Planting

The plams, bamboo, ferns and fatsia have a very strong form which creates a great back drop for the high and bright reds and yellows of the heauchura, crocosmia and achilleas.

These plants will in general be easy to care for; all they need is regular watering and a feed once a year.

View from the rear deck

Look back at the house from the rear decking area.

This is a really sunny spot in the afternoon and evening.

Garden Room

My client is in the process of creating a garden room with glass sliding doors which will overlook the new garden.

My brief here was to design and build a garden that made this small space feel bigger, was child friendly and is easy to look after.

Curved Deck

This large curved deck gives a fantastic space for entertaining and relaxing.

The natural shape adds to the relaxed and informal feel of the garden.

Planting

Dramatic foliage shapes and strong reds bring a vibrant feel to the garden.

Standard fruit trees add height and interest. All the plants here are very easy to look after.

Cobbles and Planting

Cobbles frame the main lawn.

The soil in this garden was very poor and needed a great deal of improving before we planted.

This spot is very shady and wet. These semi tropical plants will do really well here.

Black and Yellow Bamboo make a great screen for the shed.

Lawn

A hard wearing lawn.

My brief for this garden was simple. Design and build a garden which was in keeping with the Victorian house it was attched too.

Stone setts, Sandstone paving, Oak Railway sleepers, Herbaceous planting and a 150 year old Olive tree were used to create both formal and informal spaces.

Natural materials and a few mature trees give the impression of a long established garden.

The Garden has both formal and informal areas.

A raised herbacous bed was created from Oak Railway Sleepers, which looks great from both the formal seating area and the informal area of the Garden.

Sandstone paving inset was a Mill stone surrounded with Herbs made a good sized formal seating area at the side of the house.

Large Bay trees introduce the informal area of the Garden, and make a good focal point from the side gate.

A Sunny spot great for relaxing with a chilled glass of wine.

New Turf

New Turf was laid; it pulls the whole Garden together and its colour is very calming.

Sunken Garden

A small back garden transformed into a classical Italianate court yard. The sunken lawn adds interest and acts as a sun trap, the water feature makes the atmosphere tranquil and the simple planting is striking and yet low maintenance.

Front Gardens Don't Have to be Boring!

A Simple Brick Path

A very large patio

This patio and wall were built from salvaged materials which fit well with this Victorian house.
